Floral Designs for Fashion Designers

Inspiration is drawn from so many places and we find fashion to be one of the most inspiring of them all. From the fresh and daring, to classic and couture – tic-tock designs celebrate the vast world of creative possibilities. One of the things we love about working with the world’s finest fashion houses is drawing inspiration for our designs from theirs and creating the perfect pieces for their events. These arrangements were created for one of these clients and, while we can’t say who (can you guess?), we can say we had an amazing time!

Thanks to Kris Kan for the always beautiful photos.

The Arrangement: Eddie's Gone but the Game is Still On

Soo, if you missed last week’s episode of the arrangement, you missed a lot of drama, a lot of fun and you also missed our very own E making his departure.

While it certainly wasn’t expected (seriously, the phones in the office were ringing non-stop with “OMG I can’t believe it!!! calls) – it was the way things went and, really, Every Single Thing happens for a reason because, I kid you not, after leaving the show - E walked into the shop unexpected and unannounced just in time for a meeting with the amazing Marcy Blum. I honestly couldn’t have planned it any better had I been making the schedule and paying the judges. It was perfect.

Also incredible? The amazing people he had the pleasure of meeting and working with as part of The Arrangement.

More incredible still? That not only is The Arrangement NOT OVER, but it’s been moved to prime time. New Day: Wednesday. That’s Today. New Time: 7pm buuut the time sorta depends on your cable provider so look up the schedule for LogoTV in your area and keep watching the rest of the season because people keep going home and, well, other people come back. *wink wink*

E's Inspired by: D&G

For every thing everyone knows about E, there are at least ten they don’t. We’re always talking about his love love love of fashion and how much of his inspiration is drawn from the designs he sees splashed across the pages of fashion magazines and strutting down runways.

But if we asked who his favorite was, would you know? Now, if you were spending time with him and out and about seeing him at parties or running into him at, say, the St. Regis Monarch Beach, the Beverly Hills Hotel or wherever he happened to be putting together a fabulous soiree – it would be readily apparent if you were taking in the details of his personal style.

Dolce&Gabbana create everything E believes great design should be. Their work is well put-together, forward thinking, somehow timeless and there is always the presence of that one little detail that pulls it all together, sets it apart and makes all the difference in the world – in a way so subtle it can seem unnoticeable. It’s a melding and play of the soft and the industrial. This play is evident in all of their work from Dolce&Gabbana to the casual D&G piece and you can see it everywhere in their new Milan restaurant, GOLD.

That same sort of play is ever-present in Eddie’s Couture Florals designs, the clean and the classic, the modern and playful; that magical place where the past and the future meet and ignite creating timeless.

Oh, and tonight is the premier party for The Arrangement on LogoTV. But we’ll tell you more about that tomorrow and the show starts Monday at 11pm.

Saturday Afternoon at The St. Regis With David Tutera

It seems as though this, more than any other year, tic-tock Couture Florals has had the opportunity to work at the St. Regis Monarch Beach but this last weekend was the first time we’ve worked there with David Tutera. We first worked with David and his fabulous team earlier this summer on an episode of his hit show My Fair Wedding. One episode led to another episode led to this gorgeous wedding at the St. Regis where we were really able to create some breathtaking arrangements and décor. Feast tables set at angles creating an "X"  were draped in fine linens then set with a variety of high and low centerpieces, each of them full and lush with hydrangea, roses, peonies and spray roses. Between the arrangements rested crystal candelabras and votives reflecting light and just the perfect glow in the ballroom of the St. Regis. It was the wish of the bride and groom to bring their friends and family together in this beautiful Southern California destination for a bit of an escape into their dream. It was our pleasure to be part of David’s team in creating the elements of his vision and making that dream come true.

What's Blooming? A Sneak Peek at Couture Florals to Come

Just over halfway through 2010 and it’s really been a year of full of the fruition of dreams. We’ve worked with long-standing clients we adore, people we’ve been wanting to work for with for some time and tomorrow’s top talent. We’ve released a new website, participated in Battle of the Wedding Designers, been on David Tutera’s My Fair Wedding (more on that soon!) and there’s more from that world to come. It’s always been a dream to share vision, inspiration and the art of design with the world and over a few days last month the beginnings of turning that dream into reality. Behind the lens was Marianne Lozano whose eye is unparalleled when it comes to capturing the details of the work and truly conveying the art of Eddie’s designs with art of her own. Shot over several summer days in Venice, CA and all over Los Angeles, the creations that will become the pages of this book provide glimpses into E’s imagination and what can come of dedication to the thing you love. While the release won’t be until 2011, we’re too excited to keep it a secret and wanted to give you just a peek of what is to come.

Thanks to Marianne Lozano, as always, for letting us use her beautiful photographs.

Dana & Jeff

This season we’ve been so blessed to work at places we love with people we love. When Dana & Jeff decided to take their vows, they entrusted the planning of their dream day to Mindy Weiss Party Consultants. With Mindy and her talent at the helm for coordination, it was a given that the assembled team would include only experts with eyes for design and a passion for transforming dreams into reality.

The Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows set the stage for this beautiful March wedding. Edgar Zamora and his team of design elite at Revelry provided large mirrors set in antiqued, carved golden frames surrounded the room against a background of gorgeous chiffon drape.

We created arrangements reflective of this romantic couple by dressing Curly Willow in Hawaiian Orchids and ensconced the base in Garden Roses, Viburnum, White Hydrangea and Ranunaculus. We also designed the hand-embellished place card table for this crystal loving bride.

Photography guru Robert Evans was chosen to capture the magic resting in the details of the day. Each element of decor and unforgettable moment will live forever, frozen in time through his lens.

On an early spring day that couldn't have been lovelier outside, something truly captivating was created inside the gates of The Fairmont. What a wonderful beginning it was to what has been a bright wedding season!

Your Wedding Day Magazine: Lush Opulence

Last night was the launch party for Your Wedding Day Magazine’s summer 2010 issue which features photos from their groundbreaking event “The Making of a Magazine: A Behind the Scenes.” When we were invited to be a part of this event, we couldn’t have been more honored. Held over two days at the Taglyan Cultural Center, "The Making of a Magazine" was an opportunity to show where just where the imagination can take us and what goes into a shoot. Given the concept of  "Lush Opulence: Inspired by the Proper Traditions of English Teatime," We dreamed up a setting worthy of the Queen and her court. Perfectly lit by J Fox Event Lighting and photographed by Kevin Lubera, we used rich fabric draping, antique furniture pieces, a gorgeous cake by Cake Divas, elegant linens from Wildflower, tabletop elements from Classic Party Rentals, and too good to eat food by Divine Food and Catering, we set the stage for the real star of the show, the floral designs. A swooping garland, lush and full of roses and peonies was posted by ribbon beneath a golden chandelier and down to the tabletop where the length of the table was covered not by traditional fabric runner, but by an arrangement rich and textured with roses, hydrangea, tulips, amaryllis and peonies. Throughout the space were accents incorporating ribbons and jewels, porcelain and jasmine, details set about like little discoveries waiting to be made. See what you find in the Summer issue of YWD that inspires you, then tell us what you loved about it.

the knot at Casa del Mar

Nearly every day we get requests to be a part of industry events, to provide florals for wedding professionals we love at places we adore. If we said yes to all of them we wouldn’t have time for our incredible brides and the special events clients that help us bloom but last week, we had the honor of participating in an event for the knot at Casa del Mar in Santa Monica, CA. In conjunction with its LIFESTAGE NETWORK counterparts, the nest and the bump, the knot chose the ladies of Bella Weddings and Events to take the helm of this evening of fun and friends where we were able to get together, talk about what’s new, what’s passé and what’s next.

Rrivre Works provided décor, Kathy Mazza and Susan White – the ladies of Bella Weddings and Events brought their eye and expertise in pulling the whole thing together and we got to do what we do best and focus on the flowers.

Thanks to Duke Photography for the beautiful images.

Mother's Day is Sunday!

Mother’s Day is fast approaching! What are your plans to honor the woman you call Mom? Seems everyone has ideas they’re sharing and we’ve got one we’d like to share with you. We’re creating arrangements and arrangements and arrangements for Mothers all over, not only from their children but from their pets to their plants and everything in between. So, here’s a thought: First, buy your mother something wonderful. It doesn’t need to be expensive but something sweet, thoughtful, something small. Then, call your florist and ask them if you can stop in. Ask if they will incorporate your gift into an arrangement done in either her favorite colors  *or* colors that remind you of Mom. If you opt for colors that remind you of her, don’t forget to tell her why. Share with her a memory or a moment and tell her why, say, the color Yellow makes you think of Mom. She’ll love it. Promise.

But whatever you do, don't wait. Put some thought into it and make it something special. After all, she's probably the first one who told you "it's the thought that counts."

tic-tock: Freezing Moments with Marianne Lozano

In 2002, A Beautiful Mind won Best Picture and a woman with an eye for beauty arrived in Los Angeles. Native of the Philippines, photographer Marianne Lozano came to Los Angeles perhaps aware that she saw things a little bit differently but unaware that she would change the way we see weddings. She is, hands down, one of our favorite photographers to work with. Not only can you see her work throughout the pages of this blog but she is regularly featured in Ceremony Magazine and YWD. But before her work was seen in the magazines, she was building her portfolio by designing her own shoots. While a student of photography, surrounded by peers aspiring to specialties in fashion and architecture, Lozano surprised everyone with her crystal clear vision of capturing the day in love most dear: the wedding day. There was something about documenting the joy of a wedding, the emotions, the details, the way people prepare for the day that begins forever. Once the ceremony is over and  the songs of the reception are memory, photographs are the frozen moments that capture the day and the photographer is the one entrusted with the most important gift [besides the ring!] that you will take with you from your wedding day. When we chatted with Marianne, it was that reason that, if Marianne could impart one piece of advice to the bride to be - it would be to find a photographer you connect with, someone whose personality you enjoy and who inspires happiness in you; someone you would like to take forward with you to capture memories as your lives change and as your family grows. Someone you trust to bring a smile to your face when you sit down to flip through the pages of the past.
