Tabletop Design: Part 1

Tabletop design is an artform in itself. Good tabletop design creates an entire sensory experience out of socializing and enjoying cuisine that a chef puts his or her heart, soul and time into creating just for you. It's not only a way to honor the food and chef, but also a way to send a message to your guests that you are willing to take the time and effort to create a beautiful environment just for them.

When incorporating florals into a tabletop design, it's important to think about which natural objects will best harmonize with the place settings you choose. You also have to consider a design that promotes social interaction, rather than impeding it. Be careful not to place floral arrangements that are too tall between guests, for example.

Tabletop design ranges from a real profession to hobby. If you're just getting started, don't be afraid to play around and see what works. Peruse magazines like Grace Ormonde Wedding Style, Elle Decor or Architectural Digest. Magazines and blogs are a great place to start for inspiration!

E designed the Asian-influenced tables below using lots of texture and a gorgeous color palette of fuschia and various shades of green with orchids, hydrangea and succulents. The amazing photos are by Marianne Lozano!
